Casa do Sarau
London's platform for Portuguese-language literature.
Connecting authors, publishers and readers across the Portuguese-speaking world.
Where Portuguese literature meets London.
Casa do Sarau is a cultural hub where Portuguese-language literature, poetry, music and performance meet in the same room.
People come to listen, to read, to discover writers they have never come across, and to stay afterwards. It happens regularly, in rooms small enough that a voice does not need amplifying to be heard. Nothing is staged for the camera.

The Lusophone world
One language, many stories.
Casa do Sarau exists for literature written in Portuguese — from Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé and Príncipe, Timor-Leste and the diaspora. London is the meeting point.
A bridge between London and the Portuguese-speaking world.
What we do
- Discover
- Portuguese-language authors, books and voices introduced to a London audience.
- Connect
- Writers, publishers, translators, readers and cultural institutions in the same room.
- Present
- Curated readings, launches and conversations — literature live, not promotion.
Books
At the centre of it all, a book.
Readings aloud, launches in London, the Livraria do Sarau book table at the end of the night and the house's own recommendations. The book is what remains when the room empties.
The evening
Five movements, one room.
- 01
The Word
Invited writers and poets take the stage and read live.
- 02
The Voice
Performance, music and spoken word lift the room.
- 03
The Encounter
An open microphone makes space for unexpected voices.
- 04
The Book
Authors and audiences meet around books and conversation.
- 05
The Table
The evening continues long after the last reading.
For writers
If you write in Portuguese, there’s a stage for you here.
Each edition, Casa do Sarau programmes a small number of authors and performers. You do not need a published book — you need something to share.
Work with us
Bring an author or title to London.
We work with publishers, literary agencies, festivals and cultural institutions to present Portuguese-language authors to London audiences — launches, readings, co-produced programmes and long-term cultural partnerships.
